Literacy Support Software: Home

This guide provides instructions on using Literacy Support Software available to NSCC students and staff.

Introduction

Literacy Support Software is a category of software products designed to support users with reading and writing tasks.  In general, they are tools that work across multiple applications and allow the user to:

  • read text aloud
  • check grammar & spelling
  • mask the screen for easier reading
  • dictate for writing tasks
  • predict words
  • find word meanings or synonyms in a built-in dictionary or thesaurus
  • scan or change documents so they can be read aloud

NSCC has two reading/literacy support software programs, ReadSpeaker and TextHelp Read & Write which are available free for all staff and students.
