We are a passionate advocate for music and those who create it. Music is one of the most visible and highly recognized expressions of the Canadian experience. Therefore, we believe that it is important to promote and protect the value of music and its production. Music Canada is a non-profit trade organization founded in 1964 that promotes the interests of its members as well as their partners, the artists.
The familiar history of jazz music in the United States begins with its birth in New Orleans, moves upstream along the Mississippi River to Chicago, then by rail into New York before exploding across the globe. That telling of history, however, overlooks the pivotal role the nation's capital has played for jazz for a century.
