The Halifax Declaration, overwhelmingly supported by Black communities, organizations and institutions across Canada, is a manifesto rooted in the three objectives of the International Decade for People of African Descent (2015–2024) proclaimed by the United Nations:
Recognition, Justice and Development

"We, Canadians of African descent, spanning all generations and regions of the country, convened at the National Black Canadians Summit in Halifax in 2022 to make a formal declaration:

“Recognition! Justice! Development!” are interdependent demands that we proclaim and will carry forward and defend with unwavering determination, for all oppressed peoples"

Scarborough Charter

Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) is the first college in Atlantic Canada to sign the Scarborough Charter on Anti-Black Racism and Black Inclusion in Canadian Higher Education. The Scarborough Charter was spearheaded by the University of Toronto Scarborough with input and collaboration from students, employees, relevant organizations and Black political and civic leaders. It reflects a shared recognition of the realities of anti-Black racism and provides post-secondary institutions with concrete principles, actions and accountability measures to follow for a more inclusive future.
