What is Read & Write?

Read & Write is a powerful text-to-speech software, which also has options for dictation and more. As a student, you have access to the full version of this program. To download Read & Write, please follow these steps:

  1. Visit the TextHelp website and click on the Try Read&Write button. This will give you options to download for different operating systems (Windows or Mac) and browsers (Chrome or Edge).*
  2. Login with your NSCC username and password (W# / Password).
  3. Follow the instructions provided to download the software.
  4. If using Read & Write while browsing the internet, be sure to download the Google Chrome plugin. See this video for more information.

*Note: If using an NSCC device, please visit the Technology Service Desk to install using Live Chat!

Getting Started

Read&Write for Windows

  1. Go to

  2. Click “Try Read&Write today” (red button) and a drop down will appear.  Click on Windows.
  3. Choose localization (US English or Canadian English) Click the red button for Install.

Once you’ve downloaded Read&Write, you can install Read&Write by following these steps:

  1. Go to the folder that you saved Read&Write to.  If you didn’t choose a folder, you’ll find the read&write.exe in your Downloads folder.
  2. Once you’re in the folder, double click on Read&Write.exe.
  3. Click on Accept and Install.  Read&Write will now be installed on your computer

When you’ve finished installing Read&Write, you need to sign in and activate Read&Write.  This will allow you to use the premium features of Read&Write.  To do this:

  1. Double click the Read&Write icon on your Desktop.
  2. Click on the Read&Write tab at the top of your screen.
  3. Sign into Read&Write using the “sign in with Microsoft” option and enter your NSCC O365 credentials.


Read&Write for Google Chrome

  1. Open the Chrome browser
  2. Go to the Chrome web store and add the following three extensions:

If you are signed into Chrome with a Google account, once Read&Write is added you will want to sign into your O365 account. To do this, open Read&Write, click on the 3 dots (options), then choose “accounts”, then sign in with O365.

Logging On with An Android Tablet or Similar Device

To login on with an Android tablet (or similar device) that only has a Google option to sign in with, you will need to enter a product code to gain access.

The product code for NSCC is GQU2HXAE, once you have entered this code, it will authenticate your license.
