Getting Started With Open Educational Resources (OER) at NSCC

1. Request a Curated OER List [online form]
Get started with a curated list to review!
NSCC faculty can complete this form to request a curated list of OER that match their course outcomes.
You can also conduct your own search. Check out the Where to Find OER web page for tips on where to look.

2. Evaluate OER Check List for Faculty [PDF download]
A checklist to help guide your evaluation of the curated list of OER that match your course outcomes and search criteria.
3. NSCC OER Recipe [PDF Download]
The OER adaption process - the ingredients and steps for adapting an OER at NSCC.
4. Ready to Adapt or Remix? [Excel file]
Adapt:Complete the Open Textbook Adapt & Remixing Request Template.
Submit with your NSCC Pressbooks addition request [Step 6].
Note: Adoption Requests - Go directly to Step 6.
5. Pressbooks Project Plan Template
Adaption projects and new books require a project plan to be submitted with the New Book Request [Step 6].
Adaption is defined as making changes to the original. The changes may be small or extensive. Your project plan provides the details about the planned changes.

6. Submit a Request to have a New Book Added to NSCC Pressbooks [online form]
Use this form to place a request to have an open textbook added to Pressbooks.
*Note: Adaptation and New Book Projects require 2 forms to be uploaded to complete the request:
1. Adaption Remixing Plan [Excel template] step 4
2. Adaption Project Plan [Word template] step 5

Open Textbook Change Tracker Tool [Excel file]
This Excel file is used to keep track of changes in the textbook. The completed file is imported into the new open textbook to document the changes made.

NSCC Libraries Pressbooks

NSCC has its own instance of PressbooksEDU called NSCC Libraries Pressbooks.

NSCC Libraries Pressbooks is a platform for creating, adapting, publishing and sharing open textbooks. Have a look at the NSCC Libraries Pressbooks Library to view the open textbooks currently being used at the College.

NSCC encourages the adoption, adaptation and creation of Open Educational Resources (OER) in order to increase innovation in teaching and learning while decreasing costs for students.
