Library Resources in Brightspace: Streaming Video

NSCC Video Collections

NSCC Libraries has several Streaming Video Collections:

Films from these specific collections can be shown in the classroom and can be viewed off-campus. You can embed videos from these collections into Brightspace. Your students will have immediate access without ever having to leave the course platform.

Finding the Embed Code

Each of our streaming video collections provides embed code for films and or segments.

Alexander Street

Locate the film you wish to embed. Click on Share (under the film description). You will see the Embedding code. Copy the embed code.

*You can use the Permalink provided to link to the film rather than embed. 

Criterion-on-Demand

Criterion-on-Demand does not have embed codes. BUT you can still link to these films in Brightspace. Here's how:

  1. Find the film you want to link to.
  2. Form the main page of the film copy the URL in the address bar.
  3. Paste that into your course - hyperlink an image or rich text.

Films on Demand 

*Films on Demand has a Plug-In for Brightspace that allows you to search fo and add FOD  content directly into your course! Here's how to use the Plug-in Tool :

  1. In your module select NEW > Create a File > Insert Stuff.
  2. The Films on Demand tool will be listed. Click on it and follow the prompts to search for and add films.

If you do NOT see the Plug-in Tool listed, please consult with your Instructional Designer to have it installed.

If you are in a hurry, you can embed the video code:

  1. Locate the code you wish to embed. Click on Share > Embed Code > copy the Alternate Embed Code - (Full Title).
  2. Off-site users WILL be prompted for their w# and password.

CBC Curio.ca

Locate the film you wish to embed. Click on Share (bottom left of film). You will see the Embedding code. You can choose a size for embedding. Copy the embed code.

*You can use the Permalink provided to link to the film rather than embed. 

NFB
For free and public NFB content, locate the film you wish to embed. Click on EMBED (beneath the film). Copy the embed code provided. Off-site users WILL NOT be prompted for their w# and password.

*CAMPUS films cannot be embedded.

The best way to provide students access to a CAMPUS film is to create a playlist and add films to that. Then link to the playlist; students can view the CAMPUS film off-site. to create a playlist you must have a NFB CAMPUS Account. Please contact your Campus  Library for help.

Montie SafetyCare 

To embed Montie films, use the Video URL, this is a link to the video. Locate the film you wish to embed. Click on MORE INFO. Click on EMBED (upper right corner of window) > Video URL.  Copy the link BUT remove the proxy prepend. Off-site users  will be prompted for their w# and password.

Emebedding Films on Demand, NFB, Alexander Street, and CBC Curio

Step 1. Get the embed code.

Step 2. In the Module where you wish to embed the video, click on New.

Step 3. Click Video or Audio.

Step 4. In the field that says Enter URL or Embed Code, paste the embed code copied from the Streaming Video platform.

Step 5. Title your video.

Step 6. Select Preview.

Step 7. Click Save.

Embedding SafetyCare Videos

  1. Once you have the Video Link,  remove the proxy prepend.
    For example, the video link will look something like this:
    http://ezproxy.nscc.ca:2048/login?url=https://nscc-safetyhub-com.ezproxy.nscc.ca/embeddirect/XJT7EZ3J/215359
    Remove the beginning section from http to url=
  2. In Brightspace, open New Topic > Create a Link
  3. Give your Link a title : i.e. title of video
  4. Paste Video URL  (without proxy Prepend) into field
  5. Uncheck: Open as External Resource > Click Yes
  6. Select Create

NOTE: You might need to go and Edit Link again – and remove the proxy prepend again.

Linking to LinkedIn Learning

IMPORTANT: Faculty and staff embedding LinkedIn Learning Links in courses or email messages should inform students/users that they will need to log in to LinkedIn Learning as per the instructions on the NSCC LinkedIn Learning Guide [https://subjectguides.nscc.ca/LinkedinLearning]. Once the user is logged in, they can access single videos, a full course, or a Learning Path.

Finding Link

  1. Go to LinkedIn Learning as per the instructions on the NSCC LinkedIn Learning Guide [https://subjectguides.nscc.ca/LinkedinLearning].
  2. Once you find the video you wish to link to, copy the URL in the address bar.
  3. Paste this link an email or Brightspace course.
  4. Include information with the link information users that they will need to log in to LinkedIn Learning as per the instructions on the NSCC LinkedIn Learning Guide [https://subjectguides.nscc.ca/LinkedinLearning] before accessing the link.
