Citing Infographics

Citing Information

  • After paraphrasing or quoting place a reference number next to the text.
  • Number and list your sources in the order they appear in the infographic.
  • Add a section to the end/bottom of the infographic called Sources or References.
    • List all information sources  and images used in the text.
    • Number in the order the content appears.
    • Your source reference should include: title of the information, who it is by, the source, and the URL to the source.
    • If the content has a Creative Commons licence, include the Licence type (e.g. CC BY). You must also include a link to the licence terms page. Example of a CC licence with a link to terms: CC BY-SA licence.

Citing Images

  • Include the reference below the image or
  • Include image credits in your Sources section located at the bottom of your infographic.
  • Note: Design templates and decorative images from apps (e.g., Canva, Adobe Express) can be acknowledged with a separate statement.
    Example: Unless otherwise specified, design template, graphics and images are licensed under Canva.

Citing Information using APA

  • After paraphrasing or quoting, include the name of the source and creation date in brackets. An In-text reference (last name, date).
  • Add a section to the end/bottom of the infographic called Sources or References. List all information sources cited in the text. Include Author (or creator), creation date, title of the information, the source, and the URL to the source.
  • List them in the order they appear in the infographic.

Recommendations for Citing Images

  • Include the reference below the image or
  • List images at the end/bottom of the infographic in a section called Sources or References. Include a reference for image sources in the order they appear in the infographic. 
  • Note: Design templates and decorative images from apps (e.g., Canva, Adobe Express) can be acknowledged with a separate statement.
    Example: Unless otherwise specified, all images and design template are licensed under Canva.
