Goal 12,  Responsible Consumption and Production, intends for all countries to increase the efficient use of resources while reducing waste, particularly food waste. It also calls for the re-evaluation of fossil fuel subsidies and sustainable public procurement policy.

Examples of NSCC initiatives that are helping to advance Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production.

Leaders in Waste Management With over 10,000 NSCC students entering industry every year, demonstrating good waste management practices to the workforce of tomorrow provides endless benefits for our province. NSCC performs annual waste audits to track our progress toward increasing our waste reduction goals. As a result of this work, NSCC has been awarded as the top performer for waste in the Sustainable Campus Index published by the Association of the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE).
Process Optimization Research

The NSCC Applied Research team is always seeking more efficient and responsible ways to meet industry needs. The department’s Engineered Technologies research stream addressed challenges such as smart and environmentally responsible agriculture and sustainable bioproducts.

Sustainable Procurement NSCC has a Procurement Policy to ensure that all procurement processes are performed in a transparent manner. This policy also outlines the College's considerations for sustainability in the procurement process. The College commits to embedding sustainability criteria into purchasing decisions whenever economically viable.
